We know that for (most) people, organizing and planning are not sexy topics. (We've had enough friends' eyes glaze over when we were raving about our latest way for keeping our to do list under control to become at least that self-aware!)
Still we promise: fifteen minutes and the simplest of tools really can make an overwhelming activity (like planning a bachelorette weekend) easier.
You need: a monthly paper calendar (print it out for free) and a pen (see? We promised. Simple.)
What to do:
- Write down the major milestones before the event (e.g., get swag delivered, email itinerary three weeks out, etc.). Don't worry about nitty-gritty to dos at this point. (4 minutes)
- Then work backwards: If you want to get customized swag online, you'll need to have ordered ~1-2 weeks before -- so you'll need to decide on what to order by then. That means you'll have wanted to get ideas from attendees a few weeks before that, and ask for any sizing info at least a week before you order. And so on ... (8 minutes).
- Figure out how you're going to remind yourself of these mini-deadlines -- put the calendar up on your fridge, send delayed reminder emails to yourself, whatever works (3 minutes)
- Celebrate your amazing organizational skills!
And if you'd rather have a root canal than do this (or you haven't found fifteen minutes of peace for three weeks)--well, that's what we're here for!
